Lanier of 3190 Havenwood Drive, Blackstock, died Friday March 7, 2008, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C. He was 78. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the graveside at Bethesda UMC Cemetery with the Rev. Cora Campbell officiating. Born December 24, 1929 in Bessemer City, N.C., Mr. Lanier was a son of the late Wright and Alice Craig Lanier. He was a building contractor and member of Bethesda United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Edith Funderburk Lanier; one daughter, Susan Jones and husband, Casey of Chesapeake, Va.; one sister, Carrie Lee Kersey of Gastonia, N.C.; one brother, J.P. Lanier and wife, Frances of Bessemer City; and a grandson, Daniel Jones of Chesapeake. Mr. Lanier was preceded in death by a son, Robert Dennis Lanier and a daughter, Patti Lanier. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the social hall of Bethesda Church. Memorials may be made to Bethesda UMC, P.O. Box 463, Great Falls, SC 29055. Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. |
